Kestrel Ridge is a twelve-room lodge on a working tea estate, high on a ridge above the valley. The house was built for the estate manager. We kept its stone walls, wooden floors and big fireplace, and added good beds, hot water and proper reading lamps.

The lodge sits at the end of a quiet estate road, about twenty minutes above Munnar town. The last two kilometres are narrow and winding, so we send a car down to meet you if you ask.

    Walk the tea rows with our estate manager, from the pluckers' paths to the old factory gate. Tea and banana chips at the top.

    Leave at 5 am in the lodge jeep and watch the sun come up over the valley. Hot tea in a flask for the ride.

Questions

How do we get here from Kochi?

Cochin International Airport is about 110 km away, a drive of three and a half to four hours. We can arrange a car for a fixed fare. Send us your flight time when you book.

Is it cold at night?

Yes. Between December and February it can drop to about 10°C. Every room has heavy blankets and hot water, and the lounge fire is lit each evening.

Do you serve lunch and dinner?

Breakfast is included with every room. Lunch and dinner are home-style Kerala meals, cooked to order. Please tell us by 4 pm if you are eating in.

Can a small car make it up the estate road?

Yes, in dry weather. After heavy rain we send the lodge jeep to meet you at the estate gate.

About Kestrel Ridge

Kestrel Ridge is a twelve-room lodge on a working tea estate, high on a ridge above the valley. The house was built for the estate manager. We kept its stone walls, wooden floors and big fireplace, and added good beds, hot water and proper reading lamps.

Most mornings start in mist. By nine it usually lifts, and the valley opens up below you, with the tea rows running down to the river. Every room has a window that faces it.

Days here are slow. Walk the estate with our manager, drive to the viewpoint for sunrise, or sit on the porch with a book. In the evening the fire is lit in the lounge, and dinner is served at the long table.
